  • Challenge

Saia operates all over the country and needed a streamlined toll management service to consolidate all of its toll activity. Dealing with numerous tolling accounts resulted in endless amounts of paperwork and incorrect transponder violations. Tracking all this paperwork presented itself to be a challenge that is time consuming.

  • Solution

Saia turned to Bestpass to solve all of its tolling needs. Saia now has consolidated accounts, fees, and simplified violations and billing processes. This allows the company to take a step back and make better toll decisions based upon a wealth of easily accessible toll data.

  • Results

Bestpass has provided Saia with streamlined toll management services for the entire fleet. Saia now receives toll discounts that they would not otherwise, and above all, consolidated billing and minimized violations. This is not only saving them money, but also valuable time in the back office that was initially spent on paperwork.

We have greatly appreciated Bestpass’ focus on us as a customer, and their continued support as we have grown in our relationship.”

  • Challenge

TransMaquila needed to streamline its processes to cut down on violations as their fleet continued to grow.

With over 400 trucks and traveling internationally, TransMaquila was concerned about having the proper coverage and devices, which quickly became too much for their team to manage. Spending almost three hours every week just reviewing paper toll bills and speaking to each individual tolling authority to make payments and dispute violations, managing toll quickly became an administrative hassle.

They needed an all-in-one solution that would enable them to handle all tolling activities, which would consolidate devices, statements, and toll data.

  • Solution

In 2020, TransMaquila was introduced to Bestpass at a Freightwaves event. Learning about how Bestpass could help them realize time savings, cost savings, and centralized toll activity, Bestpass checked all of the pain points that TransMaquila was experiencing.

They started with the Horizon Sticker, which gave them coverage across select southern states, including Texas. As their fleet continued to grow and realizing they needed a device that was transferrable across vehicles, they upgraded their coverage and devices to the Complete Pass, offering them nationwide coverage.

  • Results

After bringing on Bestpass's Complete Pass, TransMaquila saw three major benefits: time savings, cost savings, and centralized toll activities.

The TransMaquila team received nearly 4 hours back in their day with the help of the easy-to-use Bestpass portal as well as having the added support from the Bestpass Customer Support Team.

The administrative fees accrued when paying bills through the tolling authority were adding up to more than the cost of toll. These fees are now a thing of the past since all payments are made through Bestpass, cutting down on paper bills and the resources required to manage toll.

“Bestpass delivered what was promised, a simple and superior solution to toll payment and management."

  • Challenge

Decker recognized the need for toll management and weigh station bypass pretty early on. But, their existing provider wasn't meeting expectations.

The information and reporting that was being produced didn't allow them to glean any meaningful insights and required more manpower to maintain than they had hoped.

  • Solution

In 2021, Brent Ellis, VP of Business Systems and Processes at Decker decided to investigate other solutions that would meet their needs.

In the process of looking for a new weigh station bypass solution, they came across Bestpass, which would help them solve for their tolling needs.

Now with two providers, Decker was finally starting to see the data they needed versus a singular solution with minimal return.

  • Results

Since then, Decker has seen improvements in cost savings, reporting, process automation, and overall better relationships with their partners.

Quickly, Bestpass helped Decker realize 7%-9% in cost savings on toll alone! In addition, Brent and his teams are able to collaborate with Bestpass to leverage their toll data to aid in more strategic projects and help the organization meet business goals.

“I don’t look for vendors, I look for partners, and Bestpass has been a partner from the beginning. The relationship we have is collaborative, not transactional and they’re always there when I have question or an idea, and always ready to help. Good stuff!”

  • Challenge

With a 15-truck fleet, Deven Transport was receiving auto-replenishment fees that were adding up to more than the cost of their toll.

Each vehicle/transponder required a balance of $250 and they would often surpass that amount in toll, which means their bank account was being hit frequently with auto-replenishment fees.

They received no discounts for their vehicles and were paying close to $20,000 per month on transactions related to toll. This was not sustainable if they wanted to grow.

  • Solution

In 2018, Deven Transport was introduced to Bestpass, which gave them and all-in-one solution. Through Bestpass, they ordered E-ZPass transponders for each of their vehicles and were able to set a surety balance for their entire account, versus each vehicle individually.

This allowed their surety balance to be hit before their bank account and they could adjust it according to how much toll they projected to hit. It also spread out a larger balance over their entire fleet so that trucks that were hitting more toll than others were not getting auto-replenishment fees.

  • Results

Since 2018, Deven Transport has seen benefits from having Bestpass as their toll management provider, including cost savings and better reporting and visibility.

Deven was once spending $20,000 on toll month-over-month. However, since bringing Bestpass onboard and having one surety balance and superior discounts, Deven is now seeing $13,000 in monthly savings that enables them to make much needed improvements to their fleet.

And with better reporting, Deven can provide a more accurate picture of their toll spend and make better business decisions.

“We are always looking for ways to make improvements to our fleet and to the way we do business. Technology is constantly evolving, and we like to keep a pulse on how we can benefit from what’s available, giving us opportunities to grow and providing a better experience to our customers.”

  • Challenge

To lower toll costs and the expense of managing toll activity

With 7,100 tractors in service across North America, Werner Enterprises sought to reduce toll costs by taking advantage of available discounts provided by tolling authorities, and by reducing the cost of transponder violations caused by inaccurate toll station readings. Additionally, the carrier sought to drive down the cost of managing toll activity and processing in house.

  • Solution

Werner Enterprises began using Bestpass bulk purchasing and streamlined toll management services in 2011. Today, the fleet has about 7,500 Bestpass single toll and weigh station bypass transponders in use. Previously, operating in 48 U.S. states and Canada meant some vehicles had as many as six transponders.

Bestpass uses its bulk purchasing power to provide Werner with toll discounts and maximizes management efficiency through its toll management solutions. Currently, Bestpass has more than 230,000 active transponders in the field and is processing more than $1.15 million in toll every day. To date, Bestpass has provided its customers with more than $57 million in toll cost savings.

  • Results

Adding up savings from toll discounts, reconciliation and streamlined administrative processes

Bestpass is providing Werner with as much as $200,000 in annual savings. In one state, they successfully renegotiated discounts that were about to expire and saved over $75,000 per year. In another where the carrier was not getting any discounts, it is now saving about $75,000 annually. Additionally, Bestpass is resolving as much as $3,000 per month in transponder violation issues for the fleet.

“Once we started talking to Bestpass there was no turning back. They have been out in front of our needs, including being very aggressive about adding tolling authorities to their network. They also consistently address our concerns with excellent customer service. Bestpass is very proactive in everything they’re doing. They are constantly asking what they can do to serve us more effectively, and they always have the carrier’s best interest in mind, all at a lower cost.”
